TE 846 Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners

Phonemic awareness and phonics in spelling patterns
Summer 2011
Instructor: Dr. Gary Troia

Course Description:  TE 846 focused on literacy learning, particularly for English Language Learners and struggling students.  The modules I completed included instructional strategies for many of the components of literacy:  phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, and writing.  For each of these categories, I discussed how I have applied some of these strategies or plan on applying them in my teaching.  My final project was composed of two case studies, each working on the same spelling lessons.  It included lesson plans, pre- and post-assessments, and a reflection on the entire process.

Below are examples of a current student's work.  I worked with her extensively this year on improving her writing skills.
