Instructor: Judy Thompson

Course Description:  This internship year course, which focused on social studies, taught me one of the most important pieces of information about that particular subject:  the main goal of teaching social studies is for students to become informed, responsible, and caring citizens (of their communities, state, country, and the world).  It seemed natural then, to teach my second grade class about their community, which aligned with the Grade Level Content Expectations.  My unit included learning much about the geography of the city as well as some history.  My lesson plans included differentiated instruction as well as formal and informal assessments.  The unit culminated with each student contributing a page to our ABC book about their community.

Some of my work from the social studies unit:
  • Pre-planning and resources
  • Lesson plans, assessments, and reflection
An assignment that analyzes the behaviors of and accommodations made for a special needs student:
  • Special Needs Learner Profile
